Law Day 60th Anniversary

Latest News

This month we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Law Day. On May 1, 1958, President Eisenhower proclaimed Law Day to honor the role of law in the creation of the US. In 1961, Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day. It was subsequently codified in the U.S. Code, Title 36, Section 113. Every president since then has issued a Law Day proclamation on May 1 to celebrate the nation’s commitment to the rule of law.

Law Day was created to help people appreciate their liberties and to affirm their loyalty to the US. Especially with regard to their equality and justice. It also aims to cultivate respect for the law, which is vital to the democratic way of life.
